About the Book
This 140 page book by Dr. Maletnlema is about the challenges of what we call the "nutrition transition" in Tanzania and Africa in general. As we continue addressing the problems of "under-nutrition" and getting successful to some extent, the problems of "over-weight and obesity” emerge, challenging governments to address both at the same time. Dr. Malentlema's book focusing more on Tanzania, it empowers individuals to address the problems of over-weight and obesity and the related life styles.
Written in nine chapters and in a reader friendly way with illustrations and real life examples, Dr. Malentlema manages to explain even the difficult concepts related to obesity and associated diseases. He defines the "executives" and discusses the health problems they face including obesity, mental stress, high blood pressure, heart attacks, diabetes, Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) including HIV virus, peptic ulcers, arthritis and alcoholism. He summarizes in an easily understood manner the complex metabolic and social processes that make people fat or thin and importantly he also offers some solutions including a sample standard diet, the way to address stress including that caused by retirement. He ends by providing the scientific basis of the book.

This book is good to anybody and especially those affected by the fast modern life styles and transiting from traditional to highly processed foods.
